Thing 30: Summary Web 2.0

The best part of this whole learning experience is one of
awareness. It is good to be aware of new technologies. However it is also
good to realize that just because a particular technology exists does not mean
it is prudent to use w/o a thorough evaluation as to pro's and con's.
We need to be step carefully before diving into such things for marketing, etc.

Thing 29: 2.0 favorites

My favorite discoveries on Web 2.0 were LibraryThing,
Flickr and ImageGenerator. YouTube and Delicious were great too but i had already
used those. YouTube i have used on my job for finding song melodies and music groups.
Delicious is a lovely tool cuz it's like carrying around your favorite ref resources everywhere you go---no having to imput each website on every computer.
The most useful aspect of this whole module is one of awareness.

Thing 28: Rollyo

So what's the deal w/Rollyo. I see some interesting lists or websites for
do-it-yourself fixing, Mr. fix-it, thisoldhouse.com etc but whenever i click on them
to see the real website i get nothing. I've tried different days and times and it's the same frustrating problem. This isn't something i find useful.

Thing 27: LibraryThing Catalog

This was fantastic and very useful. See my list of current reading or some of my
oldies but goodies.

Thing 26: Image generator

My Buddhist name is King'>http://mybuddhistname.com?name=e5e6a76b">King Vast Feet. What's" yours?

If you click on the above link it will tell you that my Buddhist name is King Vast Feet.
By authority of some image generator via Generator Blog. LOL.

The image generators i liked best were the Neon Sign maker and the Snowflake maker
but i couldn't tranfer those to my blog.

Thing 25: Pod/Vodcasts

I was able to get into the John Hopkins podcasts and the LibSuccess Wiki w/the listing of libraries w/pods. Denver amd ASU libraries were blocked by Websense. The Wiki listing
of libs w/pods was definitely the easiest and most productive for this exercise. I had to go
thru a lot of trial and error on the JHU site to finally access a podcast interview on the use of JHsearch. On the LibSuccess Wiki I selected (was it Wharton college?) to get to Book Expo/
Authors Studio where i could listen to an interview from an author re his book. Kinda cool to
hear the actual author's voice.

Thing 24: finding podcasts

Most of the podcasts mentioned in the Web 2.0 were not accessible thru staff
computers. After listening to the sample podcast in yahoo; I then went to NPR was
was able to easily access and cut and paste a podcast from that onto my google reader/bloglines
acct. I also downloaded a podcast on librarian jobs available in my zip code from the yahoo podcasts. There are library related things out there but i doubt i would ever use this mode.
I think the podcasts are more trouble than they're worth. Cuz then there are umpteen things
loaded onto my acct that i need to delete and i rarely check these accts.
